When a young girl travelling overseas. I spent two days in Egypt, went to Cario, Port Said and was along the Suez Canal. I saw many horses either being ridden or pulling small carts. They were small, dainty and had extremely dished heads, tiny ears and teacup muzzles and were very sure footed. I was in awe of these horses, their riders were in robes and were swarthy looking men.
In 1969 when I started going to dog shows in the Gippsland area I would look for any Arabians that were being shown. Back then, they showed little resemblance to the athletically beautiful horses I had seen in Egypt.
I had always had a horse as a youngster and decided that I was going to breed Arabians. Thus my love affair with this noble breed began.
I purchased my first Arabian colt in 1976, he was of Crabbet and Colonial lines. My first mare was Bint Bellina Imp UK, she was a grand daughter of one of the "Heavenly Twins" born at Crabbet Park some years prior. Bellina was not pure Crabbet, she had some Russian and Polish in her pedigree. Pripoj, Naplyv and Pomeranetz to name a few.
It was around this time, the first of the Straight Egyptians arrived in Australia. My interest soon turned to these. I purchased from Paul and Ella James of Arabian Park. A black colt by Ansata El Hakim imp USA. This was followed by three black straight Egyptian mares, the only three available for sale at that time in Australia. Arabian Park Egyptian Ibna by Hakim and Dynasty Maacah and Dynasty Tamar both by AI Karim Sirhalima imp USA/Exp USA. From then I was breeding not only Straight Egyptian Arabians, but black Arabians as well. During 1991 whilst in the USA on a dog judging trip. I purchased from Paoli Gucci, a black Straight Egyptian colt, W.H Kadeen after which several more Straight Egyptian mares joined the stud. Amongst those were Simeon Sasonah imp USA, (Sold to Rosecliffe Arabians) Shimaya, these two mares are by Simeon Shai exp USA. I purchased mares by Arabian PRK Faraz imp USA, Tarong Shahgar, Talihan, Simeon Stav, The Fujitive imp USA, Black Halim imp semen USA, Ansata El Shahwan imp USA and Tarong El Nefous.
I have never been involved in showing Arabians to any degree. My time was devoted to showing my Pomeranians. During 2004 I purchased a Pinto Arabian Stallion, Karedon Del Rio, a bay and white Tobiano a multi show champion, and have now been breeding Pinto Arabians.
